These handprint lilies would make a perfect gift for Mum on Mother’s Day, or as a spring craft to brighten your day. They are super easy, and very low mess. My 4 and 7 year olds loved making these.
You will need:
- coloured paper or card,
- a pencil (preferably a round rather than hexagonal pencil),
- scissors
- tape,
- a 15cm (6′) green pipe cleaner, and
- a 15cm (6″) yellow pipe cleaner.
Start by drawing around your hand on the coloured paper. We have used paper in these photos. Card would work equally as well as paper. Just be aware that the petals may be more tricky to curve into shape.
Cut your hand shape out. If you can see any pencil marks, gently rub them out.
Gently roll the base of your hand cut out into a cone shape, and secure with a piece of tape. You can use glue here if you prefer. If you do choose to use glue, you will need to find something such as a paperclip to secure it with and be patient whilst it dries.
Curl the fingers of your hand into petals using a round pencil. Your petals will be slightly creased, rather than curled if you use a hexagonal pencil. Roll each petal around the pencil to curl it.
Gently curl each of your petals until your hand print lily looks a little like this.
Bend the yellow pipe cleaner in half. Make a little hook in the end of the green pipe cleaner. Place the fold of the yellow pipe cleaner inside the green hook.
Fold one side of the yellow pipe cleaner in half again.
Pinch the hook of the green pipe cleaner. This will hold everything securely in place. You might want to twist the ends together here, but it should hold with just a pinch.
Take the longer end of the yellow pipe cleaner and wrap it around the the shorter end of the yellow pipe cleaner. Keep wrapping until you have run out of pipe cleaner.
Gently push the stem through the hand print petals.
Repeat the process to make more handprint lilies. You dont need to make loads. A small bouquet will look beautiful.
