Tie Dyed Shoes

These Tie Dyed Shoes are super easy to make and a lot of fun. My kids loved making these. The materials are cheap and easy to get hold of. I think these will be a staple for our summer wardrobe this year. I hope you enjoy making yours as much as we did ours.

Happy Crafting!

You will need:

  • A pair of plain canvas shoes
  • Permanent markers (we used sharpies)
  • Surgical spirit
  • A spray bottle
  • Masking tape

Start by protecting the edges of the shoes with masking tape. You can skip this step if you want to, but it will help stop the colour from running onto the base of your shoes. Don’t forget to remove any laces and keep them safe.

Draw your design on your shoes. You can mark your design out with single lines, before colouring it in further if you like.

They are your shoes so colour them how you like. Leave a white gap between the colours where you can. This allows space for the colours to bleed. Without the space, the colours may mix too much, and your design will be less vivid.

My 4 year old coloured his shoes with random colours and patterns. I was worried they would turn out a mucky brown colour. But they turned out pretty well.

When you are happy with your design, spray your shoes with surgical spirit. Id recommend spraying your shoes outside. You won’t need to worry about what else is getting sprayed the way. The colours will bleed into each other, creating a tie dyed effect.

Leave these to dry completely. The design will continue to bleed as the surgical spirit dries.

Once completely dry, you can wear your tie dyed shoes with pride.

Enjoy the results, and wear your shoes with pride
