Easy Folded Christmas Trees

These Folded Christmas Trees are super simple, and so effective. You can use them anywhere. Impress your friends and family by adding them to the front of Christmas cards and gift tags. Hang them on your Christmas Tree. Or maybe you could attach a piece of string or ribbon and turn them into some festive bunting. Make the template a little bigger and you could use the finished Christmas Tree as a stand along Christmas card. Get the kids to add some decorations, and you’ll have a lovely homemade card for friends and family.

You will need:

  • My Folded Christmas Tree template
  • Paper. Any kind of paper you like. I love the festive paper with different patterns on each side. Even standard white printer paper will work. You can add some decorations if you like.
  • Scissors
  • a pencil
  • a ruler

Start downloading the template. There is a link in the “you will need” section above. Click on the link and them template should appear on your computer. Print and cut out the template. There are two variants and two sizes to choose from.

Carefully draw around the template on your festive paper. Make sure you mark each end of the dashed score lines.

Score along the score lines gently using your scissors. If you are using paper this step isn’t essential, but will make your life much easier when it comes to folding. If you’d rather carefully fold along the score lines without scoring first, your tree will work just as well. If you are using card or thicker paper, scoring is essential to create a crisp edge to your fold.

Starting at the top, fold each of the score lines in a concertina effect. Your first fold goes one way, the next the opposite way, an so on until you run out of folds.

That’s it. Thats all there is to it. Easy.

Have a go at these variations…

Use paper with different designs or colours on each side to show the contrasts in the folds

Make one out of fabric and stitch or glue along the sides.

Glue buttons or little pompoms to create baubles. You could draw decorations on with pen or paint if you’d prefer.

A star bead glued to the top would make it easy to sting them together for bunting.

Make the template a bit bigger and use the finished trees as Christmas cards. You could fold them and let the kids decorate them for friends and family.

  1. These Folded Christmas Trees are such a clever idea! I love how versatile they are and the endless possibilities for decoration. My question is, have you tried making these trees with other materials like felt or foam? I’m curious to know if they would still fold nicely.
