FAQs
What happens at a Splatter Club session?
Each Splatter Club session starts with a short welcome and introduction to the day’s theme. Then it’s time for child-led play and exploration!
Children can choose how they want to explore the different activities, which may include wet and dry sensory trays, painting and art, fine motor activities and opportunities for gross motor play.
There’s no pressure to take part in every activity β your little one can explore at their own pace and revisit the things they enjoy.
At the end of the session, we’ll help everyone get cleaned up before saying goodbye.
Do I need to stay with my child?
Yes. Splatter Club is designed for you and your child to explore, play and discover together.
The grown-ups get to join in with the fun too β and the best bit is that you don’t have to clean it all up afterwards!
Adults are responsible for supervising the children in their care throughout the session.
Can we just turn up?
Yes, you can turn up and join us if there is space available, but your place isn’t guaranteed without booking.
Booking in advance means you can be sure your little one has a place. It’s also usually better value to book a block of sessions for the half term.
What should my child wear?
Splatter Club is designed to be messy, so please dress your child in clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting mucky. We recommend avoiding anything special or difficult to wash.
It’s a good idea to bring a change of clothes for afterwards. And don’t forget that grown-ups can get messy too!
Will the activities stain clothes?
Some materials used in Splatter Club can stain clothing. Food colouring is one of the ingredients that can be particularly difficult to remove.
We do use washable paints and carefully selected materials wherever possible, but messy means messy! We therefore recommend clothing that you don’t mind getting stained, just in case.
What age range is Splatter Club suitable for?
Splatter Club is designed for babies, toddlers and preschoolers from around 6 months to 4 years.
Children need to be able to sit unaided to take part safely.
Every child develops differently, so if you’re unsure whether Splatter Club is suitable for your little one, please get in touch before booking.
Adults are responsible for supervising the children in their care throughout the session.
What materials will my child be playing with?
We use a wide variety of materials to create different sensory and messy play experiences. All materials used are non-toxic and washable, and many of the ingredients used in our dry sensory stations are food products.
Some sessions may include wheat and gluten, so please let us know about any allergies or sensitivities when booking. Our sessions are nut-free and dairy-free.
Depending on the theme, activities may also include non-toxic, water-based children’s acrylic paints, play sand and sensitive shaving foam. A gentle, unscented bath wash is provided for cleaning up at the end of the session.
If your child has an allergy or you would like to know exactly which materials will be used at a particular session, please contact us before booking and we’ll be happy to provide more information.
How long is a Splatter Club session?
Each Splatter Club session lasts approximately one hour.
What do I need to bring?
You don’t need to bring any messy play equipment β we’ll provide everything your child needs for the activities.
We recommend bringing:
- A change of clothes
- A towel or something to protect your car seat if your child is particularly mucky
- Any essentials your little one normally needs during an outing
And most importantly, come prepared to get messy and have fun!
What if my child doesn’t want to join in?
That’s absolutely fine! Children are encouraged to explore at their own pace and there’s no pressure to take part in every activity.
Some children dive straight in, while others prefer to watch, touch things cautiously or take a little time to warm up. That’s all part of the experience.
Can I bring my baby or another child with me?
Yes! Younger siblings who aren’t yet old enough to take part in Splatter Club can attend free of charge when accompanying a booked child.
Once a child is sitting unaided and able to take part in the activities, they will need their own ticket.
Sibling discounts are available when booking more than one child. If you’re bringing siblings and aren’t sure which ticket they need, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
What happens if my child is unwell?
If your child has sickness or diarrhoea, please don’t bring them to Splatter Club. To help protect other children and families, children must be free from these symptoms for at least 48 hours before attending a session.
If your child is unable to attend because they’re unwell, you can transfer their ticket once to another Splatter Club session or gift it to another parent and child.
To transfer a ticket, please contact us at least 2 hours before the session starts by text or email. If you’re gifting the place to someone else, you’ll need to provide the new attendee’s name and any relevant allergy information before the session.
Tickets can only be transferred once.
Are there toilets and changing facilities?
Yes! There are toilets and changing facilities downstairs near the entrance to The Woodside.
If you need to change your child during the session, you’re welcome to use a suitable space in the upstairs hall when available. Please bring your own changing mat.
Can I bring food or drinks?
Yes, you’re welcome to bring snacks and drinks for your child. Please be mindful of other children attending and avoid anything containing nuts or dairy.
We ask that children eat and drink in a suitable area away from the messy play activities, where possible.
