Egg Box Trees

These cute little Christmas trees made from egg trays are not only a creative way to recycle but also add a charming touch to your festive decor. You can customise the colour to match your specific decor theme, whether it’s a traditional green or a more modern metallic palette. Additionally, these delightful trees would make a great garland if strung together.

You will need…

  • an egg tray
  • green paint
  • White pipe cleaner
  • A star bead or a yellow pipe cleaner
  • scissors
  • mini pompoms, stickers or other small embellishments.
  • ribbon or string
  • cool melt hot glue

Let’s get making…

Start by turning your egg tray upside down and painting the bottom.

Carefully cut out your painted egg tray. You will need at leat 3 cups per tree, but you could make a larger tree if you’d like.

Trim the edges so that they are a little wavy. These don’t have to be even. You are recreating the look of a tree, so don’t stress too much about making it look perfect.

Glue a white pipe cleaner along the edge of each cup. This will represent snow covered leaves, and hide any raw edges on your egg boxes. Add some mini pompoms or stickers to the edges of your egg cups. Using a sharp needle or skewer, pierce a hole in the top of each egg cup.

Fold a length of string or ribbon. Tie a knot near the top to create a loop. If you are using a star bead, thread it onto the string now, tying knots either side of it, so that it doesn’t fall off your string.

Thread the first cup onto the ends of the string. Tie a knot underneath about a centimetre or two away from the inside of the cup.

The further away the knot, the bigger the gap between the sections of your tree. Remember you don’t want to see a gap or the knot between the trees.

Thread the next cup and tie another knot. Finally add the last cup and tie another knot.

If you are using a yellow pipe cleaner for the star, carefully bend it into a star shape, trimming the pipe cleaner to length. Glue your star to the top of your tree, and your tree is complete.
