How to tie an adjustable knot

The basic adjustable knot is very handy to know when you’re making bracelets and necklaces out of leather or cord that doesn’t stretch.

I have used 2 different colours in this blog so that you can see what is going on. You will of course have each end of the same cord.

Lay your cords out on a table so that they are pointing in opposite directions.

On the right hand side, take the end of the black cord over the white cord, back under the white cord, over itself and under itself, ending up pointing in the same direction as it started.

Pull the knot tight. You should be able to slide the black knot along the white cord.

Mirror the above steps on the left hand side.

Take the end of the white cord over the black cord under the black cord, over itself and under itself, ending up pointing in the same direction as it started.

Pull the knot tight. You should be able to slide the black knot along the white cord, and the white knot along the black cord..
