This is a super easy gift idea. Perfect for Mother’s Day. You probably have the ingredients you need in the kitchen already.
You will need:
Sugar – Raw sugar will give you a more grainy texture. We used standard granulated sugar for our scrubs.
Oil – Any non-scented food grade oil will work here. Olive oil is popular. We used coconut oil.
Colouring – Not essential, but a little colour will add a lovely touch to your scrub. Again, any food colouring will work well here.
Flavouring – any skin safe scents will work well here. Your safest option is to use food grade flavouring. We made a lemon scrub, and strawberry and vanilla, and a bubblegum scrub.
Jar – you’ll need something with a seal to store your scrub. A nice kilner style jar will make a fabulous gift. But equally, a recycled jar with a good lid will work fine. I have used the mini jam jar pots for my scrub.

The ratio to make your scrub is:
2 parts sugar
1 part oil
2-3 drops of colour
1/4 tsp flavouring
To fill a mini jam jar you will need 3tbsp sugar, 1.5tbsp oil, 2-3 drops of colour and 1/4 tsp flavouring
Start by measuring your sugar into a mixing bowl. Add your colouring and mix well until the colour is evenly distributed.

Now add your oil and flavouring. If you are using coconut oil, you will need to gently heat it until it is completely melted before you add it to your mixture.
Stir well until completely blended. Carefully spoon into your jars.

We had a go at mixing two flavours together, layering then up in the jar for a different effect. We mixed a strawberry with red colouring, and vanilla without any colouring. The effect was good, but it was tricky to layer it in the jar so that it looked good.
Add a ribbon and a tag to your jar and these will make a fabulous gift.
